ABOUT LITTLE MUSIC MAKERS
M.Ed.Studs.; B.Ed.; Dip. Arts in Music.; T.T.C.
Little Music Makers has developed out of a background of more than 30 years teaching music and movement to babies and young children through the Kindermusik and Gymbaroo programs. The importance of music and movement to the overall development of the child has been very noticeable in the classes that I teach. Parents want not just the support of others in the class going through the same stages with them but also the knowledge of what is best practice and how to stimulate young minds and bodies for optimum learning. Music and movement are interdependent and so important for the developing brain.
From 2005 to 2009 I worked as a Research Fellow at the University of Tasmania studying young childrens’ musical identity and well being. Children from my Kindermusik classes were participants in this exciting longitudinal study conducted over a three year period under the direction of Professor Margaret Barrett. A $200,000 funding grant was provided by the Australian Council for Research.
I source products that I know will stimulate the imagination of babies and young children, that are age appropriate and are able to be handled by little ones, and products that have stood the test of time with the vigorous use they get in the classroom.
Little Music Makers has a particular focus on the first two years of life. As well as musical instruments we have a range of nursery toys and aids for developing body awareness and control aids to ensure your baby makes the right moves. There are activity mats for tummy time such as the Gymini range by Tiny Love, musical mobiles and star projectors for calming and soothing. We have music CDs and DVDs, baby music and nursery rhymes. There are award winners such as Baby Einstein, the Majors for Minors CDs, and the Best of Kindermusik.
